One Blackfriars Tower

The imposing development of luxury apartments overlooking the River Thames required wetroom and waterproofing solutions for the contemporary bathrooms

The Challenge

One Blackfriars is the latest landmark sky scraper on the London Skyline referred to as the Vase, having taken inspiration from the Lansetti ii Vase – a Scandinavian glass vessel, from the Architect Ian Simpson’s private collection.

The beautiful apartments which have been inspired by three eminent British Artists, offer home owners a luxurious lifestyle with spacious interiors and amazing views across the River Thames to the Houses of Parliament, St Paul’s Cathedral and the London Eye. Each apartment features cutting edge technology and bespoke joinery as well as luxurious materials including Italian marble.

As nominated installers, Wetrooms UK were approached by Berkeley St Georges to supply and install wetroom and waterproofing systems onto the timber floors of the bathrooms within the 274 luxury apartments at One Blackfriars Tower.

The Solution

An effective waterproofing solution was required to tight deadlines and with a 10 year installation guarantee. Due to the timber floor construction within the apartments, Wetrooms UK recommended the installation of Modular Wet-Floor Tapered Boards to form the one-way drainage fall within each shower area. The flexibility of the modular wet floor system, enables any size or shape of wetroom to be configured on a timber floor.

M&E Contractors, Briggs and Forrester, installed a waterless drainage trap with a bespoke solid stainless steel grill against the long shower wall in each luxury shower area, capable of coping with flow rates of up to 29 litres per minute. To complete the waterproofing works, Wetrooms UK installed Tilesafe waterproof membrane across the shower floors, finishing 75mm beyond the shower area, and linking 75mm up the walls to comprehensively tank the wet-floor area and ensure there would not be any water ingress into the luxury apartments
