Newfoundland Tower, Canary Wharf

Canary Wharf's landmark high rise development required a waterproofing solution for each of the 636 apartments.

The Challenge

Newfoundland Tower is set to be the new landmark in Canary Wharf. Reaching a height of 220 metres, the world class mixed use development set over 60 storeys, will be home to 636 privately rented apartments, including studios, one, two and three bedroom accommodation. Residents will have access to a range of facilities including a private dining room, gym, residents’ lounge, virtual fitness studio and terrace garden

Wetrooms UK were approached by Stone and Ceramic to specify waterproofing solutions into the bathrooms within each apartment.  In addition, the project required the formation of falls within each wetroom that would be suitable for use on a timber floor construction.

The Solution

Wetrooms UK recommended the installation of a 700mm modular tapered board into the shower areas to create a one way fall to the drain. The 22mm tapered boards have a built in 11mm fall which ensures a guaranteed consistent gradient every time. Following the installation of drainage (by others) the wetrooms were waterproofed using CCL Wetrooms Tilesure Waterproofing & Decoupling membrane. The membrane was installed to the floor and wall junctions within each shower area and 1m outside of the shower area, finishing 75mm up the wall/floor junction.

To complete the waterproofing solution, FWM (Flexible Wall Membrane) was applied full height to the walls within the shower area, linking to the waterproofing membrane.
