The Savoy Hotel

The iconic hotel required a waterproofing solution for their luxurious guest bathroom suites

The Challenge

The Savoy Hotel is a five star luxury hotel in the centre of London, set within the vibrancy of Covent Garden’s shopping and theatre district. Originally opened in 1889, the hotel hosts royalty, world leaders and legends of the stage and screen.

Boasting a unique collection of six restaurants and bars, the hotel’s guestrooms and suites are unique, seamlessly blending the traditional with the latest discreet technology, with no two rooms or suites being the same.

During a recent refurbishment, the prestigious hotel required a waterproofing solution for their 110 guest bathrooms, with a guarantee that there would be no possibility of water penetration into the luxurious suites below.

The Solution

Wetrooms UK recommended the installation of RIW Tilesafe – a premium waterproofing membrane, onto the solid floors. The membrane was installed to all corner to corner junctions on the wall and across the entire bathroom floor. RIW FWM was then applied to full height on the walls in the shower and bath areas, linking to the RIW Tilesafe.

RIW Tilesafe is a premium self-adhesive cold applied waterproof membrane, which is designed for use prior to the application of ceramic tiles and natural stone onto timber and solid floors in wetrooms. RIW Tilesafe consists of a thick rubberised waterproof layer incorporating a woven glass fibre mesh on one side and is used to waterproof or ‘tank’ a wetroom underneath the tiles, right up to and including the drain, corner junctions, toilet flange and recessed areas.

Testimonial

RIW Tilesafe was the ideal choice for waterproofing the Savoy guest ensuites. The beauty of RIW Tilesafe is its fasttrack installation, which helps to keep the disruption caused during a refurbishment to a minimum. Tanking the wetrooms with RIW Tilesafe provided the hotel with a guarantee that the guest ensuites will be fully waterproof for the life of the floor tiles.
